When should you train again after illness?
Well, personally I waited all week before doing a couple of test sessions over the weekend. Any longer and I would have risked not making the start of Powerman Luxembourg. Any sooner and I would probably have fallen ill again right away. So although I needed to train and get my fitness benefits, too much too soon could well have tipped my immune system over the edge and I would have lost the lot!!!
Missing iROC was tough, but you have to roll with the punches, and like at my first race, sometimes even roll when you've punctured!!!! With a long season and so many races, it's possible to see what went wrong and re-focus your energy towards the next event.
Early season races are great for getting into the racing mode again after the long winter, as well as serve as a gauge of form, but they are not the be all and end all.
Well, having a week off from training did free up some time... I managed to get lots of work done on the blog, as well as have an ebay frenzy to try and raise some cash to pay for a few bits for the first part of the season.
I'm hoping my results will be strong enough from the first few big races to attract some sponsorship for the second part of the year. With ten days now until that first big race, I'm back to full power and firing on all cylinders. Over the next ten days my training will come right down to almost half of what it was a month ago, therefore allowing maximum recovery so that I step up to the start line in the best possible shape!
