Nokia Coast to Coast Sold Out By: Press Release
With a month to go until the inaugural Nokia Coast to Coast Adventure Challenge, the ultimate multi-sport adventure race across the Scottish Highlands on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September 2010, entries have completely sold out.

Demand for the 109-mile adventure challenge on foot, mountain bike and kayak from Nairn to Ballachulish has been huge with one thousand places selling out as early as July 2010; and more than 100 people on the waiting list.

Jim Mee, MD of Rat Race Events, said: 'The response to our first Nokia Coast to Coast has been incredible. In offering a truly defining UK multisport challenge, combining cycling, running and kayaking, on a spectacular and dramatic route through one of the most stunning and iconic mountain landscapes in the world, we have captured the imagination of a huge number of outdoor enthusiasts from throughout the UK and further afield.

'We know that everyone taking part, from those with a reasonable level of fitness, taking on the challenge over 48 hours, to those elite athletes tackling the 109-mile course in just one day, will have an incredible experience. We hope they are on course with their training regimes and wish them all good luck for what's in store!'

This latest addition to the adventure race calendar, from Rat Race Events, is part of 'The Nokia Outdoor Series' (www.nokiaoutdoorseries.co.uk) - a range of events to celebrate the great outdoors, giving family, friends and work colleagues the opportunity to enjoy being active in some of the UK's most spectacular locations.

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer of EventScotland commented, 'For an event to sell out in its first year is great news and shows the passion around Scotland for adventure racing.

'EventScotland are delighted to be supporting the inaugural Nokia Coast to Coast which will be an event that captures some of Scotland's most dramatic scenery with competitors who relish the challenge our landscapes present. Scotland is certainly a perfect stage for events like this and we have witnessed a growth in adventure activities over the past few years with that trend looking set to continue.'

Racing as a solo or in pairs athletes of the Nokia Coast to Coast Challenge will have to tackle a marathon worth of running and trekking; some on and off road mountain biking and a breathtaking kayak on a route that takes in some of the most iconic locations and amazing views in the Scottish Highlands: Loch Ness, the Great Glen, Ben Nevis and Glen Coe.

Councillor Sandy Park, Convener of The Highland Council said: 'The overwhelming response to the entries into the Nokia Coast to Coast Adventure Challenge are testament to the fantastically challenging and beautiful environment that we have here in the Highlands. The Highlands of Scotland are firmly becoming established as a major international destination for athletic and sporting challenges.
