A change of shoes and a shift in focus:

Over the last few weeks I've have received some very distressing news regarding not only the British Championships, but also Quadrathlon's World Cup.

Due to the present economic climate and lack of entries coming into the sport, for 2009 we will be losing our British Middle distance Quadrathlon Championships. This is a major blow for me as it was something I'd focused on throughout my preparation over the last 8months. Even worse, over the last week I've heard that one of my World cup target races will also not be going ahead! This means that I will struggle to be able to gain enough points over the remaining events to maintain my current 2nd position in the rankings, and stand no chance of moving up into the number one spot! This heart breaking news has lead me to re-think my goals for the continuation of the 2009 season, in turn leading me to look more closely at the other events in my original calender.

Since the first race of the year up in Ambleforth (see an April post) I've had some demons that needed putting to rest. This new start has given me the opportunity to take the bull by the horns, and embrace the challenge of XTERRA TRIATHLON. Over the next 7 weeks, using UK events as a build up, I'm planning to take to the start line of the World Series event in Germany on 15th August. Over the next few weeks see me go from a clean, lean, lightweight road man, to become a strong, dirty, heavyweight on what's surely the toughest of off-road challenges.
